Seriously?
This is probably the most retarded campaign I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen a LOT of retarded campaigns these past few years.
“Hey, honey, Santa doesn’t exist. I know you’re five and this is stupid of us to tell you now, but we saw this billboard today that really opened up our eyes. And, because we’re die-hard liberal hippies, we always listen to billboards.
In fact, I now feel bad for the poor kids. So you aren’t getting any presents this year. We’re cancelling Christmas because the poor don’t get any many presents as you do. It’s a wicked holiday. In fact, we should protest! PROTEST, EVERYBODY! GRAB YOUR CARDBOARD SIGNS AND YOUR IPHONES, IT’S A PROTEST!!”

That wasn’t a load of assumptions or anything.
I’ve already made one post and a few replies about this situation. Santa Claus is a historic symbol that in stories brought gifts to “good boys and girls”. So we’re basically threatening kids that if they’re bad they won’t get presents, which I think is just as idiotic as threatening kids with going to hell if they’re not good. We should just teach children that they should be good, always, unconditionally.
It’s fine for kids to know that Santa is an icon that represents Christmas cheer, but they don’t have to think that it’s a real person who is going to give them coal if they’re bad. They don’t have to know right away, but at some point, before they find out from some jerk older kid at school, they should know that Santa is a folk lore icon and nothing more. They’re not stupid, they’ll get it, it’s a pretty easy concept. That doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t take part in the joy and fun of the holiday though. I for one plan to send my future children gifts from Batman, because then they have fun, but Batman is obviously a character and they can deal with that better.
And why is it that more people have complained about not telling kids there’s a Santa because it’s a lie, than have complained about Christians thinking that Santa takes away from the meaning of the season?
Edit: don’t know how any of this means that well off families should cancel Christmas really, and the above argument about christians probably discounts your liberal hippy theory.

We told our five year old that Christmas celebrates when Santa saved the world from the Nazis… so… yeah.
